The Yoga Life: Breath of Fire Posted November 11, 2007 at 02:00 PM by Valerie Cerami Breath of Fire (Agni Prasana) Description Practiced seated, Breath of Fire actually “fires-up” your nervous system, stimulating glands (and thus, purifying the blood). The technique creates pressure (through the contraction and expansion of breathing muscles) to massage and “fire-off” nerve centers within the body. In tandem with the in-and-out pattern of breath, this is a convex and concave alternation of the back (stimulating the vertebrate). Benefits Breathing (in general) can be used as a tool to effect us in myriad ways. Breath of Fire is both a cleansing and energizing breath. It clears the mind and brings us to self-awareness, as we heed attention to the rhythmic pattern of inhaling and exhaling with intention. Improves overall circulation throughout the system.
