According to estimates, over twenty five million women suffer from some form of hair loss. Hair loss (alopecia) can cause emotional distress. It’s important to know what approaches you should take to determine the cause. The first step is to have thorough check up from your health care provider. Certain medications, misuse of hair products, allergies, stress and poor nutrition can affect the health of hair follicles. Abnormalities in the hair follicles cause gradual thinning and hair loss, while sudden changes may be the result of disruptions in the cycle of hair growth. Hormonal changes can cause patchy hair loss. Your doctor will want to know about your hair care routines, and will examine your scalp for signs of scaling or inflammation.
