On Sunday, Her Active Life posted an insightful article from senior staff writer, Caroline Shannon, about the challenges of affording organic food items and the rewards your body reaps when you eat something that was grown and cultivated in a chemical-free, natural environment. Shannon wrote “if I can eliminate from my diet some of the very obvious sources of chemicals and not break the bank, then I will be happy with that for now.” Many of our readers can sympathize with this issue. After all, we are average gals making a modest amount of money and we can’t always do our weekly grocery shopping at Whole Foods (as much as we’d really like to).
It turns out that her article garnered attention from a national organic campaign that “educates and increases consumer awareness of the benefits of organic food and agriculture.” Go Organic! for Earth Day highlights “simple ways to live a more healthy and sustainable life.” To raise awareness and turn consumers on to healthy food items, they are offering coupons at participating stores and at their online site OrganicEarthDay.org.
