Friday’s Poll: Is a Running Dress a Good Idea?

running dressMy local running store, Running Fit, sent out their weekly email. In this one I saw something I had never seen before---a plug for a New Balance running dress. I’m slowly growing used to the idea of the running skirt. In fact, I bought one but it’s still a bit chilly to break out my pale stems for uncovered outdoor runs. But a running dress? A tight-fitting one? I’m not sure I would feel comfortable. I’m curious as to what our readers think. Is it possible shorts are too manly and the new “feminine” workout apparel is a dress or a skirt? Then again, maybe the women of today simply want different options because they get bored with the same black, knee length capris.

If you want a little more information, this is how they hyped up the dress in my email. A little black running dress?  New from New Balance for our more feminine side.  Offers a relaxed skirt for ease of motion, with a fitted bodice and shelf bra for support.  It’s so cute you might want to save it for the after race party. Sidenote: It retails for $65.

I guess tennis players really like them, but the culture of tennis is set up for that. I don’t think I want to run through my Chicago neighborhood - especially in the summer with high school boys on the loose (not to mention all the other creepy guys) in my ‘little black dress’.  Then again, maybe I shouldn’t let them stop me and when I get the (inevitable) hollers I can holler back (once they make a chicago veriosn)

If I was in the shape of my life - I would LOVE the idea of a running dress! Until then, I will stick with the capris.
