apples-and-pearsUnless you’re camping out underneath a rock, you’ve heard about the heart-healthy benefits of red wine.  But few of us have heard about the hearty power of apples and pears.

According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, apples and pears rank alongside red wine when it comes to fighting heart disease.  Researchers tracked both the dietary habits and diseases developed of more than 34,000 women for over 20 years.  The results showed that consuming apples and pears resulted in the lowest risk of death from heart conditions.

Apples and pears are chock-full of flavonoids.  Flavonoids advance heart health as a result of their anti-inflammatory power, their ability to prevent blood clots from forming, and their ability to boost blood vessel functions.

I told my husband about this and now he wants us to always have apples and pears on hand, because he’s all about antioxidants lately, but he’s not a wine drinker. Thanks!
