This move aims to increase foot movement and to improve foot function. It also helps to improve reaction time. This is a great exercise to include in your workout to help raise your heart rate between sets. You should have good balance before trying this exercise.
To begin, stand up straight with your shoulders back and your knees slightly bent. Raise your arms so they are bent at the elbows at about 90 degrees and your fingers are pointed towards the ceiling. Moving to the side, complete the following stepping pattern: take a step sideways, cross step in front of that lead leg with the trailing leg, step to the side again with the lead leg, then cross step in back of the lead leg with the trailing leg. Make sure to alternate in front and in back with the trailing leg. Once you master the movement, increase your speed to go as fast as you can. Make sure your hips rotate with each movement of your legs. Complete 20 steps to one side, then switch direction and complete 20 steps to the other side.
Remember: If you lose your balance, slow down! Also, if you feel any pain in your legs or knees, do not continue.
