You may already know about Map My Run, which is a great way to keep track of your running or walking. Well, now there is a bike-specific Map My Ride. Both of these tools make use of the google-map technology. Once you create a free account, you can start tracking your rides exactly by zooming in on an online map and clicking along the same route you just rode.
But it gets even better! It will clock your average speed and pace per mile and allow you to save your routes. You can look at your own, personalized training log and note all the different training rides you’ve logged, add new rides, and schedule recurring rides. You can then input information about the quality of your ride. If you’re so inclined you can log your mood, your weight, how you slept, the weather conditions, and your calorie intake. What else could they possibly think of, you might be wondering? Plenty, is the answer. You can search for new routes, look for cycling events, and join the community to participate in discussions. You can even easily post your route directly to your blog or website.
I started using Map My Ride because I love to look at my calendar and see a little cycling icon riding across the week. For me, it’s a motivational tool. For others it could be a training essential tool, or an interesting way to track the ups and downs of your weight. I love Map My Ride, others have their own online activity tracker favorites, too. It’s really an all-in-one training log, community, calculator, weight-monitoring tool. And even though it’s called Map My Ride, you can log hikes, walks, swimming, running, or the gym.
