From press release: Atalanta AthleticWear Offers Running (Skirt) Bliss with Launch of www.skirtgoddess.com (June 12, 2007).  If you own a running skirt, let us know how you like it!

running-skirtSAN CARLOS, CA—atalanta athleticwear allows runners to say goodbye to chafing, crotch bunch, chub-rub, peeping butt cheeks and general fashion faux-pas with the all new atalanta running skirts - commitment and inspiration. The bliss of a well-crafted and seriously cute running skirt, comfortably balancing form and function, is now available with the launch of www.skirtgoddess.com.

Running skirts have recently been touted as “the new black” on forums and running blogs across the Internet and are fast gaining popularity among both sprinters, and ultra-runners alike. One skirt which graced the trails in the American River 50 miler received the following review “I ran 50 miles in the rain and did not get one bit of chafing!!!!! (My shirt...well that is a different story.)” Sure, current running shorts offer comfort or style, but rarely both. So women are turning to skirts as a way to balance their need for multi-functional comfort that provides a full range of high-performance comfort on the trail, with style and modesty - off.

With the release of the commitment and inspiration skirts, and the launch of www.skirtgoddess.com; atalanta is giving women two options for superior running comfort and style. The commitment skirt is made of super-soft, moisture wicking Dri-flex fabric and has two huge rear-side pockets to securely hold cell-phones, nutrition, hydration bottles, car-keys and much more. Hidden underneath the skirt is a full-length pair of compression shorts designed to stay comfortably in place and protect the thigh region from the notorious chub-rub. While the inspiration skirt is made of a lightweight CoolMaxTM fabric and has a seam-free pair of bumhuggers for those gals that prefer no fabric between their thighs. inspiration has two large internal pockets for carrying gel, ID, money and keys. Both skirts are available in five color combinations over a range of sizes. Matching athletic tee’s are available for most skirt color options.

Early customer road tests have produced overwhelmingly positive feedback. “I did my first run in the skirt yesterday and LOVE it! Helped me feel cute even before I went running - which helped me get out the door at 7 on a Friday night.” Said a customer recently. “I even washed it last night in case it will be warm enough to wear it at the MMRF 5k tomorrow in San Francisco - I’ll have your website memorized if I do!”

This article is timely because I was just discussing the increase in skirt wearing with some fellow runners.  Personally, I don’t get the need for the skirt if it includes compression shorts.  Why not just wear the shorts?

I am wearing a running skirt right now!!! Here’s why I find them appealing: they’re fun, new, sassy and, if you get the right brand, are super comfortable. As for Christine’s question - why not just wear the shorts? - I can only speak for myself, but I find that because the skirt makes me feel...I don’t know...sexier than shorts, it makes me want to keep going, to run more, to get my body in even better shape. I checked out the skirtgoddess.com site - their tagline is great and I think the inspiration skirt looks awesome.

That does make sense Leslie and I say, if it motivates you then keep wearing it!

On a related note though, I thought it was interesting that even though the WTA now allows shorts, very few of the players are wearing them.  But I thought Venus looked damn sexy in her hotpants!  Of course, most of us don’t have her body…

I have been incredibly curious to try a running skirt. Unfortunately, they are not in my budget. Seems that all of them out there on different internet sites are in the $50 range. I can find shorts for much cheaper.

http://www.skirtsports.com - Triathlete Nicole DeBoom’s line of skirts retail for $40.  Still expensive, but more affordable than some other brands :) (they also have a 15% discount going on - check out the “convert to skirt” menu option for more details!

I love running in my skirts! They are so comfy and cover the little spots I like to hide!

to answer your question Christine… I have another questions.

Who wants to walk around in spandex compression shorts???  Personally I outgrew this sometime in the 80s.  It makes me really self conscious standing in line at the grocery store after a run (or anywhere) and having creepy men looking at my crotch.

The other reason for a skirt over compression shorts—camel toe!  EWWWW… I do not like seeing camel toe on other women.

http://www.skirtgoddess.com does have the best option here (btw) I’ve tried a number of others, and their shorts are all too short and ride up.

b/c I wear them every day, I have found even though they might be a bit more pricey, the cost per wearing is just pennies a day.

I LOVE this skirt.  Wear it all the time.  I’m so done with running shorts that ride up, bunch, chafe and basically are completely unattractive.

    Yay for atalanta skirts http://www.skirtgoddess.com

  10. I love my running skirts, just wish I could afford more of them.

  11. I tested skirts from Nike, Sugoi, Zoot, Moving Comfort, Hind, Skirt Sports, RunningSkirts.com and Atalanta. I should mention up front that skirts from Running Skirts and Atalanta were sent to me for this review. I bought the others. I think one of the perks of working with a “smaller” company like Running Skirts and Atalanta (or even Skirt Sports) is you get a lot more attention and better customer service.

Bless for athletes, and good news for sports fans, especially tennis players. Are there any other products of this kind? For example, swimming suit or anything else?
