Most adults and young adults remember doing the President’s fitness challenge in our gym classes in grade school and high school, as they were these yearly contests to see who was the “most fit” in class. But - it turns out - the challenge is actually a lot more extensive, and can include children, adults and even seniors.
The Presidential Champions program challenges you to see just how high you can raise your activity level. For adults, the online President’s fitness challenge program has a goal - to see how many points you can earn by being active. The program has guidelines and a list of various activities you can choose from. Once you sign up, they’ll even give you a personal activity log to help track your progress along the way. There’s even a special option for performance athletes and others who train at more advanced levels. The first goal to aim for is a Bronze award. Then you can keep going for a Silver or Gold.
The guidelines are simple:
First, you simply choose from the list of activities. They can include playing golf, running, martial arts, anything really.
Second, you get active. You’ll earn points for every activity you log. Points are based on the amount of energy each activity burns. So the more active you are, the more points you’ll get. The “Bronze” award is worth 20,000 points.(If you run 5 miles per day, you reach a Bronze in about 6 weeks)
Third, you track your physical activity. The personal activity log that they set you up with makes it easy for you to track the time you spend on activities, right online. You can log your time as often as you want, in amounts as short as 5 minutes.
Fourth, you order your award. You can order it online or by mail. Then you can continue on in the Presidential Champions program for a Silver or Gold award.
Check it out. This program is a great way for you to challenge yourself and monitor your physical activity levels. It’s also a good idea to compete with a friend or family member. To find out how to sign up, click on “Presidents Fitness Challenge” below.
